I've gotten these questions a few times over the years, so maybe you had the same one
Not everyone needs one, and that's ok. Plain returns with just W-2s aren't anything that you'll see a benefit from using my services as opposed to just filing online yourself. I'm very open and honest about that and will let you know if there isn't a benefit to using my services. At the end of the day I always want what's best for everyone and wouldn't sell you on a service that doesn't make sense. What I say is usually when you have a business, or are filing self employed income, you could be missing out on deductions and costing yourself more in the long run by not letting a CPA like myself file your taxes. Whatever it is, I'll give you the best options.
All taxes are unique, so there's no set price. If your return was simple and a cookie cutter one, you probably wouldn't be here looking at CPA firms. I charge a flat fee per return and everything that comes with it. Charging by the hour, by email, by form filed, just never made sense to me. I'm here to do your taxes and help you grow as a business, not be someone you dread talking to because you know an extra bill is coming.
For sure. I hate being charged to talk to someone I might not do business with as well. I won't pressure you or try to sell you. I'm an accountant, not a salesman.
This is my bread and butter. I'm a small business and that's what I really love working with. I grew up with my father running a small business and it's always stuck with me the pride he took from it. I have that same pride with my small business and those are the type of people I enjoy working with.
Don't panic. Let's review it together and see what's going on. A lot of time it isn't something serious like a form didn't get filed or they're just double checking your math. Send it over to me, we can review it, and see what the best options are on how to handle it.
I do this on every return (if you want). I don't just finish the return, send you a PDF and a packet in the mail, only to disappear until next tax season. We can have a digital meeting where I'll walk you through your return and explain to you in normal words that you'll understand where the numbers come from. I want you to have an idea of what goes on your taxes, so you understand what it is that you're ultimately signing.
Preferably two years of taxes, but the prior year will do, depending on how complex they are. If you also have the packet or email you gave to your prior accountant that helps me see what state your books are in, which helps me get the best idea of how long it'll take me. If we're starting fresh with taxes we can walk through what's needed together.
Some years you don't need to file. Sometimes filing misses out on a return, so you could be missing out on money. We can walk through that and see IF you needed to file, and what your options are.
Dang, I thought I covered it all. Shoot me over an email introducing yourself and I look forward to geting back to you.
